DUBAI WATER CANAL BRIDGES
Dubai, UAE

2015 - 2017 | Built
In collaboration with AE7’s Dubai office, we designed two of the three Dubai Water Canal pedestrian bridges that stitch the North and South mixed-use development parcels, Safa Park and the boardwalks below along the new canal.
BRIDGE OF TOLERANCE
690 feet long / 180 feet high / 20 feet wide
As the first and only clear span suspension bridge in the Middle East, the Bridge of Tolerance represents the interwoven and diverse social fabric throughout the region. With a high arch soaring above a meandering pedestrian and cycling path supported by cables justified to one edge, the path effortlessly and playfully floats above the water to connect the two banks.
SAFA BRIDGE
490 feet long / 82 feet high / 20 feet wide
The Safa Bridge is a suspension bridge with Y shaped piers and suspension cables that draw inspiration from the region’s Bedouin Heritage and history of trading and fishing, with nods to the tensile fabrics of nomadic cultures and the masts and riggings of traditional Arab sailing vessels, the Dhow.
