BLOOMFIELD SQUARE

Pittsburgh, PA

Architecture | Mixed-Use Development

2021 - 2024 | Unbuilt

Conceived in 2021 to revamp the long-standing and underutilized Shur Save grocery site at 4401 Liberty Avenue, Bloomfield Square is a community focused mixed-use development poised to anchor an important gateway to Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield neighborhood. While respecting the history and character of the community, Bloomfield Square will bring new life and energy to this bustling intersection. Host to informal and traditional community gatherings, a convenient grocery and retail experience, apartments for existing residents and new neighbors and ample parking, Bloomfield Square will redefine how and where neighbors come to say hello.

By extending the Liberty Avenue urban corridor with strategic infill massing, maximizing site potential with consideration of the neighborhood context and elevating the public realm with a safe, pedestrian oriented gateway, Bloomfield Square will create a new hub of economic and social activity that supports the community and which residents will be proud to call home.

The current development proposal in the city approvals process will offer 260 residential apartments including 10% dedicated to affordable housing, generous residential amenities, a 28,000 sf neighborhood-scaled Giant Eagle, 10,000 sf of community-focused retail, at-grade and underground parking for 250+ vehicles, and a welcoming community square for gathering.

Bloomfield Square will offer an inspired design reflecting the character of the neighborhood in scale, color, style and material. Creating a contextual design to complement the community is of critical importance.
